Visit from Simon Fraser Students
On Wednesday, several students from Simon Fraser visited our classroom and participated in our building bridges activity, inspired by the story "Iggy Peck Architect."
Alien In-line Skating
In-line skating forms have gone home today for parents to sign. Please return the forms to your child's classroom teacher as soon as possible!
Reciprocal Reading
Reciprocal reading uses the four strategies of predicting, clarifying, questioning, and summarizing to increase comprehension.
Benefits include:
· Encourages talk around text
· Leads to internal dialogue around reading
· Fosters independence
· Broadens understanding of types of text and sources.
· Improves comprehension
· Activates prior knowledge
· Promotes student leadership
· Promotes metacognition
· Predicting motivates students to read and helps them have for a purpose for reading.

· Clarifying words and ideas helps students make connections in the text rather than skipping unknown words and ideas.

· Questioning promotes students’ comprehension because students must understand what they have read to ask their peers questions.
